What QueryRoute does

QueryRoute forwards search queries. You set up an address pointing to your personal subdomain as a search engine in your browser. When an input starts with a prefix you defined, QueryRoute calls the target URL stored for it and forwards you there. The rest of the input is passed on as the search term.

The search term itself is not stored. It travels in the address of the request, is used for the redirect and then discarded.

Visiting the site

Visiting the site creates server log files containing the IP address, the time, the address requested, the amount of data transferred and the browser identification. The basis is our legitimate interest in secure operation (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR).

Account

For an account we store:

The basis is performance of the usage relationship (Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR). Your subdomain is publicly visible because it is part of your search address.

Prefixes

We store your prefixes with their shortcut, target URL and optional description. You provide this data and only you can see it.

Search log

If you leave logging enabled, we record for each search which prefix matched, whether there was a match at all, and when. The search term and the target are explicitly not part of this.

You can turn logging off in the settings and set the retention period yourself. Older entries are deleted daily at 02:00. Without a setting of your own, the operator's default applies, currently 90 days.

Anonymous daily counters

Regardless of your setting, we count per day how many searches matched a prefix and how many did not. These counters contain neither a reference to a user nor search terms and cannot be traced back to a person. They serve operations and are not deleted.

Cookies

We set one cookie for the session so that you stay logged in. Alongside it we store session data on the server, including IP address and browser identification. A second cookie remembers your choice between the light and dark appearance. We set no analytics or advertising cookies.

Audience measurement

We count page views with GoatCounter, software we run ourselves on our own server. No data goes to an analytics provider.

No cookies are set and nothing is stored in your browser. Your IP address is not stored: it only serves to derive the country and is discarded afterwards. What we record, aggregated and without reference to a person:

To tell whether someone opens several pages within a short time, GoatCounter combines the site name, the IP address and the browser identification. That combination stays in memory for at most eight hours and is never stored permanently.

The basis is our legitimate interest in seeing whether and how the service is used (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR). Since no cookies are involved and no personal profiles are created, no consent is required.

Service providers

Disclosure

Beyond the service providers named above we pass on no data. We do not sell data and we do not analyse your search behaviour.

Your rights

You have the right to access, rectification, erasure, restriction of processing, data portability and objection. Please write to info@queryroute.net.

You can delete your account yourself in the settings. This removes your prefixes and your search log. The anonymous daily counters remain, as they bear no relation to you.

You may lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority. The authority responsible for us is the State Commissioner for Data Protection and Freedom of Information of Baden-Württemberg.
